Blended Learning Environments &
Flipping Class Content / Instruction
Blended learning refers to any time a student learns, at least in part, at a physical building facility and through online delivery with student control over time, place, path, or pace. This course will implement some aspects of a blended learning environment. We will have face-to-face in class gatherings where we will work on activities related to what you have watched and interacted online at home. For example you will be assigned some listening activities, such as lectures and/or documentaries, at home where you will take notes, post blog reflections, respond to classmates online posts, and answer a quiz either online or in the class the next day. When you come to class prepared with some of the learning done at your home we will then have more time to work on related activities in class that will take the forms of writing responses, quizzes, class discussions and other active engagements with the material. This ‘flipping’ of certain course content/instruction will give you more time in class to work on learning materials individually, in pairs and larger groups. In addition the “flipping” of various content and instructional materials also gives me more time, the instructor, to interact and give various forms of feedback on your learning process. I will also upload videos to help explain any grammar lessons needed in our class, with follow up in class learning activities, depending the students needs that exist. Also, during in class learning sessions you will also be required to interact with online materials that will then be brought back to the face-to-face interactions with your classmates in forms of pair and group work activities. This can be done with various technology devices; this include, lap tops, tablets, and smart phones.
